About Career-oriented Courses (COC)

The Education and Manpower Bureau is piloting the Career Oriented Curriculum (COC) for secondary 4 & 5 students. The COC is designed for students with interest and inclination in areas other than those provided by the existing HKCEE subjects. It aims at providing students with the opportunities to explore their orientation for life-long learning and career aspirations in specific areas.

Through the study of career oriented courses, students would develop their generic skills, values and attitude, acquire the knowledge and skills as well as understand the workplace requirement of a particular occupational area.

Upon completion of the course, when students apply to related post-secondary courses offered by CCHES, the qualification will be recognized as one HKCEE pass.

CCHES has been offering COC since 2003. This year we will provide 16 COC courses for the 2005-2007 cohort.

Features of COC offered by Caritas Community & Higher Education Service:

Courses are specifically designed for S4 & S5 students with emphasis on experiential learning. Field trips are arranged for students to see the actual operation of the various trades and businesses.

Institutes are located throughout the territory, with a great variety of courses to meet the community needs.

Practical and professional course contents that can arouse students' interest in learning and help them orientate their career aspiration.

Diverse learning activities and continuous assessment methods to enhance students' motivation in learning.

Reinforced student counseling to take care of the holistic development of students.

Successful completion of one COC course is equivalent to a HKCEE subject pass when student applies for admission to a relevant Caritas education programme.
